The Somali President stresses the role of the private sector in the two countries in promoting economic cooperation


His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, praised the good relations between his country and the State of Qatar, noting the important role that the private sector can play in strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
This came during His Excellency’s reception, today, of a delegation from the Qatar Chamber, headed by HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of the Board.
During the meeting, they reviewed ways to enhance trade and investment cooperation relations between the two countries, and the role of the private sector in both countries in developing these relations and increasing the rates of trade exchange between the two countries.
His Excellency the Somali President reviewed the climate and advantages of investment in his country, calling on Qatari businessmen to see the opportunities available in Somalia and exploit them in setting up projects in various sectors.
His Excellency said that his country welcomes Qatari investors in a number of important sectors such as infrastructure, services, mining, meat and fish production, oil and gas, and others, noting that the investment climate is encouraging and there are incentives provided by the state to the foreign investor.
He also pointed out that Somalia is characterized by a distinct geographical location in Africa, and has the longest coast on the sea in the continent, and it also enjoys the largest number of livestock in Africa.
He noted that his country supplies live livestock to a number of countries through its four ports, where Qatar can import what it needs from the livestock through these ports.
For his part, HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber, said that the Qatari private sector is keen to strengthen cooperation relations with its Somali counterpart, pointing out that many Qatari companies have a great desire to invest in Somalia.
He pointed out that the Qatar Chamber is keen to encourage Qatari businessmen to invest in brotherly countries that offer attractive investment opportunities such as Somalia.
