The funeral procession will leave from Hata via Nausad, Baghagada, Mahavir Chhapra, Dawarpar, Belipar, Kashihar, Kaudiram, Bhaluwan, Gagaha, Majhganwa, Hata, Saunkhor and reach his native village Tanda Barhalganj, where the last rites will be performed.
Harishankar Tiwari passed away on Tuesday evening. He was 88 years old and was continuously ill for a few days. After his death, people are remembering all the stories and political events related to him in Purvanchal.
Pandit Harishankar Tiwari, born in Tanda village of Badhalganj, Dakshinanchal, Gorakhpur, was elected MLA for the first time in 1985 from Chillupar assembly seat. Pandit Harishankar Tiwari contested this election while in jail and emerged victorious. From 1985 to 2007, he was continuously MLA from Chillupar assembly constituency. Pandit Harishankar Tiwari was elected MLA for 6 consecutive times from Chillu card assembly seat.
Harishankar Tiwari, who made his debut in state politics from Gorakhpur University’s student politics, founded the All India Democratic Congress in 1997 along with Jagdambika Pal, Rajeev Shukla, Shyam Sundar Sharma and Bacha Pathak. In 1985, the Chillupar assembly constituency suddenly came into limelight. Because Pandit Harishankar Tiwari was contesting the elections from behind bars as a neutral candidate. And a poster was pasted all over the area in which Harishankar Tiwari was standing behind bars with folded hands.

In this election of 1985, there was such a wave that Harishankar Tiwari defeated Congress candidate Markandeya Chand by a margin of more than 21 thousand votes. When Harishankar Tiwari reached his area after being released from jail, his poster and convoy were discussed in the entire state. And the occupation he made on the Chillupar assembly seat at that time continued for 22 years. In 22 years, whoever may have wave in the state, but only Harishankar Tiwari’s name was known in Chillupar.
Pandit Harishankar Tiwari was a minister in the Kalyan Singh government from 1997 to 1999 and in the Mulayam government from 2003 to 2007. He has also been a minister in Ram Prakash Gupta in 2000, Rajnath Singh in 2001 and 2002 and Mayawati government.
