Sisodia’s arrest may affect Delhi budget preparations: Sources

After the arrest of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, the preparations for the Delhi government’s budget for the next financial year may be affected. Sources gave this information on Monday.

Sisodia also had the charge of the Finance Department. The department is currently in the process of finalizing the budgetary allocation. An official said, “Various departments have sent their budgetary estimates, details of the budget to be used this year. The budget has not been finalized yet. The allocation to be made to various departments is being finalized now.

The budget was earlier planned to be presented around the second week of March, but now it may be presented in the third or fourth week.

However, it has to be introduced before April 1. Prior to the CBI’s questioning in the excise policy matter, Sisodia had held several budget-related meetings. Sources in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that Revenue Minister Kailash Gehlot may present the budget of the Delhi government this time.

An AAP functionary told PTI, “Gehlot was attending budget-related meetings for the past few days since there was an apprehension that the CBI might arrest the deputy chief minister.” Gehlot can present the budget for 2023-24.

It is to be introduced next month. If Sisodia gets bail, he will present the budget, but if he does not get bail, Gehlot can present the budget.
